The Topps Company has been around since the late 1930’s (but it’s origins go beyond that to American Leaf Tobacco), focused on selling chewing gum. They are currently the exclusive producer of licensed Major League Baseball Cards. They also produce products under the Bowman and Allen & Ginter brands. Topps is the oldest and probably the most well known of the current sports card companies.
Topps main focus is Major League Baseball, but they have a number of offerings in other sports (Soccer, F1, UFC), and a number of different entertainment properties (Star Wars, WWE, Garbage Pail Kids, etc).
The company also has a Europe branch that focuses on their UEFA Club Competitions and Germany’s Bundesliga, along with F1 Auto Racing.
Currently, Topps produces a wide variety of retail offerings for their flagship sets along with a number of different hobby and online exclusive products for collectors of all different kinds, from their lower end Big League line all the way up to Transcendent at over $20K a box.
In recent years, Topps has created a growing on-demand direct-to-consumer product base, highlighted by their Topps NOW and several recently completed Art Card Project product lines.
Topps is now owned by Fanatics, Inc., the major player in licensed sports apparel and memorabilia.
